In the Summer of 2023, over a dozen instrumental producers and musicians linked for Nettwerk Music Group's and Cosmo Kuma's first official beatcamp. Taking place over three days with three hour sessions on three different floors of a rented Malibu home, the result was nearly 60 songs from 20 different artists. Some were made in a bathroom, some include vocals, some include harp. Almost all of the tracks are laid-back, soothing, chill. We'll be sharing a curated compilation of our favorite instrumentals from those generative and inspiring days last Summer, a retreat that makes us nostalgic just thinking about it. The second single from the beatcamp is between takeo, Smile High, and Somni. While these three artists have rather diverse sonic backgrounds, from jazztronica to electronica to sleepy lofi, they come together nicely for "Malibu", a track that sounds just like the location. Sunny and chill.

What happens when 20 artists come together to push the boundaries of Lofi, and ultimately try and redefine a genre?

In the summer of 2023, we brought together a community of creatives who have inspired us over the years. Beatsmiths, multi-instrumental musicians and rappers heralded the first official Beatcamp by Cosmo Kuma/Nettwerk - an unprecedented, one-of-a-kind movement to empower artists to push the limits of what ‘LoFi’ means.

Artists were tasked with a unique challenge: Do what you do best, across three days in three hour sessions on three different floors. Weaving magic - as artists tend to, in moments of serendipity - they produced nearly 60 songs. Some were made in a bathroom, some on vintage Japanese mics, and some simply on iPhones on balconies overlooking a glittering harvest moon.

You now hold a tangible piece of this three-day experience - a collection of innovation, freshness and just good music. Welcome to the journey that is, “Cosmo Kuma Presents - Beatcamp Vol. 1: Los Angeles.” 20 artists. 16 songs. It's a LoFi project that you've never heard the likes of before.
